Why do I look unfamiliar in photos compared with my reflection?

Comparing the mirror vs camera can be strange as you tend to know how you look in the mirror more than in the photo. As Visuals Clipping explains, a mirror reflects the image upside down and left to right, whereas a normal photograph will normally not show that image. The angles of the camera, lighting effects, and the distance from the lens to the person's face and the expressions on the person's face will also alter the appearance of the features. These differences may make a picture look like you when it clearly is, but somehow feel like someone else when you see it.
